The Mitkoff Highway @ Blaquire Point RWIS ESS is a
cooperative project between ADOT&PF, the Petersburg Search and
Rescue, and the Petersburg/Wrangell Resource Advisory
Council. The site was relocated in 2016. There
are two single view cameras. The Blaqueire Point site is powered by
solar panels and a wind turbine. The surrounding area is
wooded to the north and west, with Bligh Sound to the east.
The Mitkof Highway is not maintained out this far so ESS repairs
sometimes are not timely in the winter.
The Blaquiere Point boat ramp is the termini for small craft
launches to and from Wrangell and the surrounding area. Winds
from the north, northeast, and east are funneled through the
Stikine River Valley and are a primary concern for marine
activities. Boaters rely on meteorological observations and
